GEOPOLITICS OF THE CONFLICT ON ENERGY SOURCES (NATURAL GAS) IN THE EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

Abstract

The volatile conflicts in the eastern Mediterranean has taken place on oil and gas resources in light of the discovery of huge gas fields in the waters of the countries bordering the eastern Mediterranean ba-sin, which added another reason for the differences and conflicts ex-tending from the last century to emerge during this stage, such as the long-standing oil and water dispute between Israel and Lebanon, and the extended conflict between Turkey on the one hand and Cyprus and Greece on the other hand, up to the recent conflict between the two largest countries in the eastern Mediterranean region in terms of pop-ulation and industrial progress, Egypt and Turkey, which need a large amount of energy sources. Turkey's entry into the front line from the Libyan coast contributed politically and militarily to fueling the conflict, which generated a regressive factor in the establishment of The East Mediterranean Gas Forum to include Egypt, Italy, Cyprus, Jordan, (Is-rael) and Palestine, while Turkey has been excluded for strategic and political reasons.
