Abstract

The problem of the current research was summed up in a question :What are the reasons for women's suicide in iraq from different points of view ?The importance of the current research lies in addressing the causes of suicide as a phenomenon that has become remarkable globally and locally, to benefit society in general and those interested and relevant decision makers in particular so that knowledge of the causes contributes to addressing the phenomenon in various appropriate ways and thus reducing suicidal behavior of women.
The research aimed to answer three questions First What are the views of dif-ferent groups of the feminist society towards the social causes of women's suicide? The second question What are the views of different groups of the feminist society on the psychological causes of women's suicide ?And the third question :What is the extent of the different responses of the research sample members on the two axes of the research tool depending on the difference in the educational attain-ment variable?
The two researchers prepared a questionnaire with two axes the first axis in-cluded the social reasons for women's suicide and the second axis included the psychological reasons for women's suicide, and the questionnaire was built accord-ing to the Likert Scale method. And after extracting its validity and reliability in more than one way, it was applied to a sample of 215 participants taken randomly from the research community, which was determined in different women's categories in specializations and educational level from the departments of Sociology and Psy-chology in the College of Arts-University of Baghdad, to find out their views on the causes of woman's suicide.
The responses were treated using different methods, including Measures of central tendency such as frequencies percentages arithmetic averages, and rela-tive weight. The research concluded the following results
1.With regard to the social causes of women; The respondents saw, with a rel ative weight 192.49%) that) domestic violence (is the reason for the woman's sui cide and the least relative weight for the responses (81.42) was from the share of the two paragraphs) absence of family and social solidarity, (and) a feeling of social isolation (as the reasons for the woman's suicide.
2.With regard to the psychological axis (88%); of the respondents thought that the reason for the woman's suicide was) the desire to die (And that (87%) of the sample believed that the reason for the woman's suicide was) the conviction that death is the only solution to what she suffers from. (And that) personality disorder, )suffering from one or more psychological disorders such as mood disorders), (feel-ing of hopelessness with life), (feelings of guilt, (and) the ability to harm oneself got relative weights, respectively (0.74,0.76,0.78,0.80),0.83) and the item) Feeling that her life is a burden on others (got the least responses.
3. To verify the existence of statistically significant differences between the) av erages (responses of a sample of faculty members and a sample of female students on the two axes of the research tool, i) female students (on the two axes of the questionnaire which can be attributed to the difference in the academic achieve-ment variable The responses of two randomly selected groups from the research sample were analyzed by (40) teachers and (40) students using the t-test for two independent groups, and it was found that the t-value of the two axes that were answered The two groups were as follows (15,833,13,900) And since those calcu lated values were greater than the tabular value (2.021) at the level of significance (0.05) the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative was accepted. It means the availability of statistically significant differences between the responses of the faculty group and the responses of the female students group on the two axes of the research tool and in favor of the faculty group. This was evidence of the effect of the level of educational attainment on the sample's opinions about the causes of women's suicide.
The two researchers came out with several conclusions, including To under-stand the causes of women's suicide in an integrated manner, it must be studied from the social and psychological aspects together and it is not enough to focus on one aspect >, and the two researchers recommended several recommendations, including: The intervention of the relevant authorities) especially the legal commit-tees in the House of Representatives (to take into account the protection of women from domestic violence in various ways >.types of violence on the one hand and on the other hand, ensuring their right to education and work, by setting laws or amending other laws. They made suggestions for future research, such as Expos ing the manifestations of domestic violence that lead to the suicide of Iraqi women>
