Abstract

The research deals with the study of the impact of libraries and information institutions in documenting and preserving intellectual heritage and highlighting this role without which society loses its own cultural identity. Exposed to such risks whether natural or man-made. and learn about their experiences with these disasters the losses they incurred and the most important measures and proposals that were taken. For the purpose of devising the basic ways and the precautionary operations that must be taken to preserve these precious treasures it relied on the theoretical approach in collecting data and information. using the literature on the subject and the studies that dealt with this subject and related aspects.
One of the most important results reached is that the library has the main role in spreading science and knowledge and it is the memory in which experiences and information are stored. It is one of the most important means of spreading culture in societies. It is also an opportunity for self-learning which links the nation to its cultural roots. It goes through periods in which it is exposed to crises and disasters like other institutions and history bears with it a lot of evidence of these disasters some of which are natural and others are artificial so care must be taken and preventive reasons are taken to preserve these great treasures.
